The following video will give you a general preview of each setting, for more information on each setting, see the Definitions Tab. Note: Beyond the capabilities of the TV, room lighting, screen reflectance, picture settings and the content itself all affect the actual picture you see on screen.
Your new LG TV settings will be set to the factory defaults, but to get the most out of your TV, you are able to improve those settings depending on the environment its in as well as your personal taste.

Backlight: Controls the level of screen brightness by adjusting the back light. The closer to the brighter. For those in brighter rooms, more backlight intensity will be desired. Try to avoid making this adjustment while sun is shining directly on the screen, as this will result in an unnaturally high setting. Instead, make your adjustments when room light is at its average for when you watch, and pick a program or movie scene with a lot of white in it, a daylight scene on a snow-covered mountain, for example.
If after watching the scene for 10 minutes you begin to squint, the backlight is too strong. Reduce the backlight and repeat until you are happy. Contrast: is the difference between the brightest image a TV can create and the darkest. The closer tothe higher the contrast will be. Ultimately, your contrast setting will come down to personal preference, but we advise that you resist the urge to simply jack the contrast up. Find a scene with a bright, white image in it and hit the pause button.
Adjust the contrast to the point where the white object is bright, but still contains detail and crisp edges. A good starting place is the halfway mark. From there you should have no problem finding the setting that suits you.
Note: You may have to bounce back and forth between the contrast and brightness settings to find the optimum combination. Brightness: Adjusts the overall screen brightness. The closer tothe brighter the screen will become. Setting the brightness too high will result in grayed out blacks and a loss of dimension. We respect your privacy.
All email addresses you provide will be used just for sending this story. These days, you might find the opposite problem. Click on that setting and your TV could look too dim or have undersaturated colors. Because these home settings help manufacturers hit Energy Star guidelines for energy use. To fix this and get your television looking its best, you could pay a few hundred dollars for a professional TV calibration.
But the following TV setting tips from Consumer Reports will let you get the best picture quality on your own. So if green turf on the screen starts looking more like an ocean of blue, you can just bring the set back to its default settings. Our exclusive Screen Optimizer provides the best settings for thousands of TV models. These are the settings we arrived at after calibrating each TV in our labs to get it looking its best.
It could artificially boost brightness, contrast, and colors, and turn on motion smoothing more on that below.
Whether that happens or not, your next steps remain the same. Ideally, a TV should be able to display deep blacks without losing the near-black detail within the darkest areas. To adjust this, freeze-frame a nighttime scene, such as one from a Batman movie or just about any vampire movie. Then turn it back down so the black gets as black as possible without obscuring those details. Find an image with lots of white—say, a wedding gown, or a sky full of puffy white clouds.
Lower the contrast control until you can see all the detail, such as the shadows in the folds of the gown, or the subtle gray shadings in the clouds.5 panel hat mockup
Then raise it to get the brightest picture possible without washing out those details. Start with color temperature, which is sometimes called color tone. All these settings may interact with one another in odd ways, so repeat the process as necessary. Manufacturers often set the sharpness control rather high and turn on noise-reduction and other image-enhancement modes.
But the best TVs need little or no added enhancement to display HD images at their highest resolution. You can tell if the sharpness control is set too high because the background will start to look grainy, and halos will appear around the edges of objects, making the overall image appear less natural.
We suggest you turn the sharpness control down to zero, then add sharpness sparingly only if the image looks soft, with poorly defined edges. Many 4K TVs now have high dynamic range HDR capabilitywhich means they can display a wider range from black to white, so you can see more details in the very darkest and brightest areas of the picture.
For instance, sometimes one object in a movie scene is supposed to hit a brightness level higher than many TV screens can produce. I've been a tech journalist for more years than I'm willing to admit.

No cherry-picked units sent by brands. The first thing you want to adjust is the TV's picture mode. This setting usually has the biggest impact on picture quality.
Each picture mode has different default settings, and some of them behave differently from one another, even if you try and match the settings across modes. The higher the setting, the brighter the picture will be. There is no right answer for this setting. Each user needs to adjust this setting to their specific viewing conditions. If you're in a bright room, for example, the TV has to be set to a brighter setting than if it was placed in a completely dark room.
It also depends on personal preferences, as some people prefer a brighter or darker image. Adjusting the backlight setting doesn't have a significant impact on overall picture quality. It tends to brighten everything pretty much equally, so although blacks tend to let a bit more light through, whites are brighter as well, so the contrast ratio actually remains about the same.Suar ki charbi se banne wale product
Like the backlight setting above, you should adjust this to your viewing conditions. Almost all TVs have this set correctly by default, so we recommend leaving it alone. If you want to try adjusting it using the pattern above, set the brightness to the minimum value and then increase it until you see the black portion on the left begins to lighten. The contrast setting adjusts the amount of detail present in bright images. This setting should be pretty close to correct by default, but sometimes needs a bit of tweaking.
Just lower the contrast setting on your TV to the minimum, and then increase until only lines appear. As you can see from the above images, there's little difference between the correct setting and the maximum.
The proper sharpness setting will make things look about the same as they do in real life. Too much will exaggerate contours and lines. It's very rare for a TV to have the option to remove sharpness from an image, which is why only two images are compared here.
To adjust this setting with the pattern, increase Sharpness to as high as it goes, and then decrease until the lines look normal and any geometric patterns in the lines usually diamond-shaped go away.
Too little saturation will wash out the color of the image extreme example at the above-leftand too much will oversaturate the picture above-right. This setting adjusts the amount of red and green tint to the image on the TV. Once again, if you decide to adjust this setting yourself, use a blue filter. Adjusting the white balance means changing the amount of red, blue, and green in several different shades of gray.Watching a state-of-the-art TV with the wrong settings enabled is like driving a Ferrari with bald tires: You're not getting the full potential out of your purchase.

With the latest 4K ultra-HD TVsthere are often a bewildering welter of options and preset modes that can make it tricky to find just the right settings. To get the absolute best image, your TV should be tuned or calibrated for a specific room. But calibration, in its strictest definition, requires professional testing equipment such as a Klein KA colorimeter or an X-Rite i1 Basic Pro 2 spectrophotometerproper training and, usually, access to special setup codes used by installers.
It also entails setting up at least two custom viewing modes to accommodate specific lighting situations — for example, one that works for night viewing and another for the daytime. Today, most TVs arrive with at least one preset picture mode that delivers remarkably accurate colors and contrast and will suffice for the average viewing situation. Soneira has been at the forefront of TV testing for decades and is the author of one of the first monitor-testing programs, DisplayMate.
Rather, all you need is a little knowledge — and our sage advice — to get the best TV picture for the big game or a big movie night. That means the TV is set in the factory to reproduce the official picture specifications for example, Rec. Many manufacturers offer a variety of other stored presets in the Picture or Video menus of their TVs. As the nomenclature suggests, it's the ideal mode for watching movies, with one caveat: Movie modes tend to reduce overall brightness to improve contrast, but in a brightly lit room, the subdued hues may look washed-out to some viewers.
Picture preferences are still subjective, however, and "not everybody wants a strictly accurate picture," Soneira noted. Consequently, many manufacturers offer a variety of other stored presets in the Picture or Video menus of their TVs. Samsung, for example, also offers a Standard mode and a Natural mode; the former senses the ambient light in the room to automatically adjust brightness and contrast; in Natural mode, the sensor is turned off.
The preset mode to avoid is Vivid mode or Dynamic mode sometimes called Standard mode. This setting drives up brightness and color settings to their maximum output, blurring details and exaggerating bright colors. So why is there a Vivid mode? It's intended as an in-store demonstration mode to help a set stand out next to the dozens of other TVs in a brightly lit big-box store.
Beware: Your set may be left in Vivid mode by default. Gamers will want to consider switching their 4K TV into Game mode before settling into an evening of fragging. Essentially, this setting eliminates some of the video processing to do things such as smooth the picture. The idea is that Game mode will reduce the input lag, which is the amount of time it takes the TV to process an image from a source such as a gaming console and get the image to the screen.
It's relatively common for a TV to have an input lag of 60 or milliseconds in, for example, Movie mode but to deliver a smaller ms input lag with Game mode switched on. Samsung's Oklu noted, however, that one trade-off of Game mode is a little loss of picture detail. Sports mode also will automatically adjust the audio on some Samsung sets, delivering more bass to create the sensation that you're in a stadium.
Other preset video modes may also automatically adjust the sound on some sets.Powermta version
If you've got a crowd over to watch the game on a sunny afternoon, it still may be the right setting. Just be sure to switch it back to Movie mode after they leave.
Most TVs let you adjust each preset to your liking. So if you prefer Movie mode but find it too subtle for your brightly lit living room, you can increase the brightness or contrast and save the settings. The same goes for other presets. But which settings should you focus on? Some settings have somewhat misleading names. Brightness, for example, typically adjusts the black level of the picture.
Backlight will raise the set's overall lighting system. Both Soneira and Oklu said that, if the picture displeases you, you should look first to the set's gamma control. This affects the contrast and is usually set to a number such as 2. Lowering the number will make the picture brighter, but it will also make it more difficult to see details in highlights of the image.
Raising the gamma setting to 2.Locate and press the Settings or Menu button. Below is a list of the available menus, click any one to learn more.
